Non-member's run 30th June 2019 - Bellthorpe
« on: June 12, 2019, 06:37:23 AM »
We have an easy 4wd day run planned for 30th June at this stage running from Bellthorpe through to Jimna weather permitting.
This one is meant to be a relatively easy one for those who own unmodified 4WD's and want to have a drive in the bush with a reliable group.
Plan is to drive the tracks, stop somewhere nice for lunch out of the esky/hamper and continue the drive

Non-members please lodge your interest early as we have a 1 to 1 ratio of members to non-members to abide by.

Items to bring: Lunch, 2 way radio is preferred, recovery gear if you have it, and your vehicle must have recovery points

Meeting at the Bakery/BP Wamuran 8.30 for sign-up and briefing - 9.00 am departure.
Plan is to drive through the bush, stop somewhere nice on the side of the track for lunch out of the esky/hamper and continue

We might be traversing some National Park areas, if you have a pet, please read this link

We've had a lot of rain, but tomorrow is supposed to be sunny.  if the tracks are too wet/slippery we can turn it in to a bitumen tour.

The only track that might be a problem is Branch creek road. we can bypass that via Bellthorpe range road and pretty sure the rest of the drive will be good

Thanks GP for running another great trip!

The 100mm of rain we had in the week leading up to this run was just enough to make the drive a bit more fun.
Was good to see the NGV getting through all of the intersting bits.  .applaud.

The low cloud/fog in the morning was impressive.
Our drove over the range to the meeting spot at Stoney Creek gave us some awesome views over to the mist covered Glasshouse Mountains.

This was a nice start to a great day for us.

After airing down at Stoney Creek it was straight into the climb up the mountain.
The fog was still thick and the reasonably damp track was a little more fun then it would have been in the dry, but not too challanging for the new to 4wding members of the group.

Even though this is only 30 minutes from home, I'd never actually done this track and I was pleasantly suprised with how nice it is in there.
Once the fog lifted it made for a fantastic day out and we could enjoy the beauty of this place a little more.

I recon we'll be be keen on another family run in there, this time we should go and check out the meduim graded tracks that we drove past on the way to the saw mill.
Thanks again to everyone that came along and made for a great day out.

Can't wait for the next one....

Mm mmm look at that shiny Zook butt.
Thanks everyone, it was a relief to take The Highlander home with only a bit of mud - and a working transfer lever!

Looks like it was better than the day we had. Reversing out our drive when we realized what we thought was mist was actually smoke. Pulled back into the drive with the car on fire. Long story short the main cables running to my comp, Anderson and brake controll system had rubbed through, earthed and set the wiring on fire. No major damage and ARB Northlakes will rewire it all for free(they installed most of it)
