info regarding 2009 Diesel G/V suspension upgrade or lift
« on: June 03, 2019, 07:33:08 PM »
Hi,
My main problem is getting on and off beach access points due to the ruts caused by larger vehicles,
I often come close to getting through before the body bottoms out,
The car still has its standard suspension which sags considerably when loaded,
I would appreciate it if someone has done an upgrade and what they think of the results,
I have heard on the grapevine that lift kits can cause considerable problems on my model so im thinking that new springs and shocks with air bags on the rear may be the way to go, I would appreciate any feedback from people who have done this,
Dobinsons maybe?

Hi Slingshot
Another person is asking something similar and our best advice for suspension options is to talk to Jason at TJM in Brendale. Heís been in the suspension game for years and really knows his stuff.
Our little Suzukiís will eat up sand but as youíve found when the bigger vehicles create ruts it can be a challenge. Other options to consider can be bigger tyres, or if the room is there, to simply straddle the ruts.

i have recently purchased a SWB JT. i had the same issue with the ruts...i konw its not the best way to go but i upgraded my springs on the standard shocks of the car and it seems to be doing a treat. it says its a 2inch "lift" but probably a little bit less of course. i changed my 225/70R16 with the 225/75R16's. In the near future i will probably be upgrading the full suspension. Dobinsons seems to be the way to go from the reviews.. .applaud.

Thanks for the replies,
I don't think many people lift these vehicles,

The design doesn't let you do to much, 40 mm in the suspension and a slightly bigger tyre is about tops, then just look at protection for underneath and sills

I'm running a 255/60 18 with 40mm Dobinson lift on mine.  Works well.  Doing a Fraser trip in august, which will be the first real test of the suspension.
