Couchmans dodgy mechanicing question
« on: April 08, 2018, 06:39:48 AM »
Once again, trying to fix one problem has resulted in finding another...
Had a nocking sound on even road to engine speed, nothing on over run or acceleration.
Thinking valve clearance so checked them all, all ok.
I thought it was the power steer, as when I take the belt off, the noise dissapares free reving.
So yesterday I threw in a new power steer pump (thanks Vaughn  :helloowave: )
During the process I changed the pump fluid the engine oil and the subies engine oil
Took the vit for a drive problem noise still there???
Started cleaning up when I got home and found what looked like bits of bearing shell in the drained oil...
So now thinking the front main bearing is on its way out.

Question:
Has any one had experience of replacing the main bearing shells without removing the engine?

Main bearings kind of can't be done because of the locating tabs - it's a complete bottom end teardown for those
I also have a master oil pressure gauge, we should put that on and see what's going on there
2 things to check as a first order of business and we go from there
How's the front pully and keyway? Not sure if that's anything but got a spare pully here if you want to come over today and do a swap to see if that's what it is.
just call me let me know what you want to do

Going nowhere special today myself

After speaking to a few people today, looks like it's something in the top end as it still has oil pressure.

Might be time to upgrade to something with air conditioning...
